our spice journey
Once upon a time, in a vibrant college town, three individuals from different walks of life met and bonded over their shared love for authentic, flavorful food. These three food enthusiasts were Muhammad, Razeen, and Sarah. Little did they know that their serendipitous meeting would mark the beginning of a beautiful journey that would ultimately lead to the creation of Mela – a sustainable, quality-driven spice brand that would redefine the way people experience flavors from South Asia and the Middle East.
Muhammad, an international student from Pakistan, had come to America in pursuit of higher education. With dreams of a bright future, he carried with him the rich culinary heritage of his homeland. He longed to share the taste of his mother’s aromatic spice blends with his newfound friends.
Razeen, the child of Pakistani immigrant parents, grew up straddling two worlds. He embraced the best of both cultures, cherishing the memories of sumptuous family meals where the fragrant spices of his parents’ home country took center stage. Razeen felt a deep connection to his roots and wanted to share this beautiful culinary legacy with others.
Sarah’s story was not too different. Born to a Macedonian immigrant mother, she too grew up experiencing the powerful impact of food in bridging cultures and creating lasting connections. Sarah’s mother would often use spices from her homeland to add a unique twist to their meals, creating an unforgettable symphony of flavors.
United by their love for food and their shared immigrant backgrounds, the trio realized that they had a common mission – to bring the authentic flavors of their respective heritages to the world while promoting sustainability and supporting the communities that made these extraordinary spices possible.
And so, Mela was born.
Mela, which means festival in Urdu, is a celebration of the flavors, cultures, and traditions that have brought Muhammad, Razeen, and Sarah together. Mela’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of glass jars and biodegradable, plantable refill bags. They believe in nurturing the earth, just as the earth nurtures the spices that enrich our lives.
But the Mela story doesn’t end there. The co-founders are driven by their desire to give back to the communities that have shaped their identities and inspired their culinary journey. By donating a portion of their revenue to charities in the regions from which they source their spices, they aim to uplift the very people who bring flavor to our kitchens.
Mela is more than just a spice brand; it’s a tribute to the power of food in uniting people, preserving cultures, and fostering love and understanding. Join Muhammad, Razeen, and Sarah in their mission to celebrate the diverse flavors of South Asia and the Middle East, and experience the magic of Mela for yourself.
